I am sharing images of Kbal Spean in Siem Reap, Cambodia, taken in May 2017. Kbal Spean is a unique archaeological site located in a natural stream. Many of the carvings and reliefs are found in the riverbed and in pools of water, so if possible, I think it is a good idea to have a guide show you around. In my case, I asked a guide who approached me while I was looking at the stream to show me around the site. His guidance was very helpful.
I would also like to explain the location of this site based on my own experience.
Kbal Spean is about a one-and-a-half-hour drive from Siem Reap. Even after arriving at the parking area, visitors must walk along a mountain trail for quite some time before reaching the archaeological site. Because of this, visiting Kbal Spean requires more time than you might expect.
In my case, the walk took about one hour each way at a relaxed pace while I stopped to take photographs. As a rough guide, I left the parking area at around 9:30 a.m. and returned at about 1:00 p.m.
Kbal Spean is located close to Banteay Srei. If your schedule allows enough time for both visits, it may be interesting to include these two sites in the same trip.
