I am sharing images of the Patuxai Victory Monument in Vientiane. I took these photos in November 2015, during my first trip to Laos. I rented a bicycle from the hotel where I was staying along the Mekong River and stopped here on my way to Pha That Luang.
It was a much larger gate than I had expected, with a beautiful shape. I was particularly interested in the reliefs on the ceiling inside the monument. They are located quite high above the ground and are difficult to see with the naked eye, but a telephoto lens reveals the delicate details of the individual figures carved into them. If you visit, it may be a good idea to bring a pair of opera glasses.
