I am sharing images of Wat Sa Si in the Sukhothai Historical Park, Thailand. I have a large number of photographs of Wat Sa Si in my collection, but for this article I have selected images taken in January 2009.
I am especially interested in the Walking Buddha at this temple, and most of my photographs focus on it. First of all, I think a Buddha image depicted while walking is quite unusual. It takes a little courage for me to say this, but the Walking Buddha at Wat Sa Si has a feminine beauty that I find very appealing. (Please forgive me if anyone finds this inappropriate.) In other words, I find it beautiful not only as religious art but also as an object in its own right.
In addition, I think the entire temple is very photogenic. The stupa, the Buddha image seated in front of it, and the view of the stupa from across the pond all make a strong impression.
I have also written about my visit to Sukhothai in 2009 in the article linked below. I hope you will find it interesting.
