I am sharing images that I took in Tachileik, Myanmar. These photos were taken in July 2010. I did not take many photos in Tachileik, but there are enough that I would rather not post them all at once, so I will divide them into three posts. This post features images of Enrobed Elephant Temple.
On this trip, I visited Tachileik on a day trip from Mae Sai, Thailand. It might be more accurate to describe it as a border crossing between Thailand and Myanmar rather than a trip to Myanmar itself. After passing through immigration on the Myanmar side, I chartered a tuk-tuk that was waiting nearby and set off to visit several temples in the area. This temple was the first place I visited.
I had seen a temple in Myanmar once before, more than ten years earlier, during a border-crossing tour from Ranong in southern Thailand. I remember a temple that looked like a mirror house, but I do not remember much about the Buddha images there. Because of that, I think it is fair to say that this was my first real experience of visiting a temple in Myanmar.
I found it interesting how different the style was, even though I had only crossed a national border. In my next post, I plan to share images of Tachileik Shwedagon Pagoda.
Note: As of July 2026, I am not sure whether foreign visitors can currently enter Myanmar from Mae Sai, Thailand.
