I am sharing images of a Barong dance performance that I watched in Ubud, Bali. I enjoy watching traditional dance performances, and whenever I travel to a place where I can see them, I try to make time for it. For someone like me, Ubud is a wonderful town. Even the large number of tourists and vehicles in the evening does not bother me.
On this day, I was touring places around Ubud with a chartered car, and I returned to town later than expected. By the time I arrived at the venue, it was already after 8:00 PM. The performance had already started, and the venue was packed with tourists. The ticket seller warned me, “You won’t be able to get a good seat if you go in now,” but I decided to enter anyway.
I had watched a Legong dance from a front-row seat the previous day, so I did not mind if the view was not perfect. However, when it came to photography, I could only take pictures with a telephoto lens by looking for small gaps between the audience and shooting from behind obstacles. That did not bother me too much, as listening to the music of traditional Balinese dance performances is enough to put me in a good mood. However, if you want to take good photos, it may be better to arrive early and ask the staff if they can help you find a good seat.
