I am sharing images of the Railay area in Krabi, Thailand, taken in late April 2008. The first half shows Railay East Beach, and the second half shows Railay West Beach.
When I first started traveling to Thailand, I only thought of Krabi as a place to catch a boat to Koh Phi Phi. Later, when I became busy with work and could not plan long trips, I started staying in Krabi to save time instead of going to the islands.
Speaking of beaches in Krabi, I had a small failure the first time I stayed there. I left everything to the songthaew driver, and I was taken far away from the town to an unfamiliar place. There, the driver told me to walk across the sea to get to the other side. I had to walk through water up to my thighs before reaching the hotel.
The beach was very shallow and full of small crabs and starfish, so it was not suitable for swimming. I moved to another beach the next day, but the scenery there was very beautiful. I still do not know the name of that beach.
Back to the main topic, the Railay area is almost isolated from the mainland and cannot be reached on foot. Railay East Beach is not suitable for swimming, similar to the beach I mentioned earlier, but Railay West Beach is very beautiful. However, it may be crowded with tourists. Phra Nang Beach nearby can be very crowded, so if you prefer a quiet place, it may be good to check in advance.
