I am sharing images of Lay Htat Gyi Temple in Inwa, Myanmar, taken in May 2019. I visited the temple by taxi chartered from Mandalay. Although it was a large and impressive site, I did not see any other tourists there.
I felt that it was a beautiful monument with finely crafted carvings. However, it was not included in the guidebook I was carrying, so I do not know much about its history or background. Please forgive my lack of detailed information about this site.
I visited this temple on the recommendation of the taxi driver whom I had hired for sightseeing around Mandalay that day. I first met this driver at Mandalay Airport on the previous day. He was one of the drivers looking for customers at the airport, but for some reason I had a feeling that he was a good person, so I asked him to arrange my sightseeing itinerary for the following day.
At first, he declined my request, saying that he had other commitments, and I expected to be introduced to another driver instead. However, on the day of the tour, it was he himself who came to pick me up. Just as my intuition had told me, he turned out to be a very nice guy. However, I still have a large number of photographs from my trips around Mandalay, so I think I will save my stories about him for another occasion.
